Compress PDF

Reduce PDF file size with different compression levels

⚠️ Note: PDF pages are rendered as images and recompressed for size reduction. Text-based PDFs will become non-selectable after compression. For text PDFs, use "Low" level to preserve structure.

About PDF Compression

This tool compresses PDF files by rendering each page and re-encoding it as a compressed JPEG image, then rebuilding the PDF. This approach delivers significant size reduction, especially for image-heavy PDFs.

Compression Levels:

  • Low: Higher resolution (2.0x scale), 85% JPEG quality — best visual quality
  • Medium: Balanced (1.5x scale), 65% JPEG quality — recommended
  • High: Lower resolution (1.0x scale), 40% JPEG quality — smallest size

Important: After compression, text in the PDF will not be selectable since pages are converted to images. If you need searchable text, use Low compression or our metadata-only optimization.

All processing happens in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded to any server.
